Floods in Galle - over 17,000 families displaced

The heavy rainfall that persisted during the past 24 hours has affected 69,216 individuals of 17,771 families in Galle, the district Disaster Management Center says.

The victims are reported to be residents of 313 Grama Niladhari (G. N.) divisions, in 19 Divisional Secretariat (D. S.) divisions.

Reports state that 80 houses have been completely destroyed by the heavy rain, whereas another 96 have been partially damaged.

05 camps have been set up to provide refuge to the flood victims of the Galle district.

Accordingly, 03 camps have been set up within the Badddegama D. S. division – specifically in Gonapura, Dodangoda and Ganegama.

Meanwhile, 02 more camps have been established at the Dharmapala and Batuwangala Temples of Neluwa
